Piranha Plants are Venus flytrap-like enemies which appear in both Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii and Newer Super Mario Bros. DS. They are found often throughout these games.

Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii

Piranha Plants first appear in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. They're first seen in Yoshi Woods, and last seen in Mossdeep Greens.

Appearance

Piranha Plants are Venus flytrap-like plants, with a green stem sprouting two leaves and a red head with white spots on it. They have whites lips, along with white razor sharp teeth.

Behavior

Piranha Plants have two versions: planted and piped.

  • Piped Piranha Plants will hide in Warp Pipes, popping out at timed intervals. When a player is on or beside the Warp Pipe they're in, they'll hide in their pipes and only come out when the player leaves.
  • Planted Piranha Plants, unlike their piped versions, will not hide, instead, will be planted in the open. They'll stay in one place, chomping at the player. They can't move, so they can be easy to dodge.

All Piranha Plants can be easily killed by a fireball, iceball, or Hammer.

Newer Super Mario Bros. DS

Piranha Plants appear once again in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS. Here, they first appear in Everbrown Meadow, and last appear in Cloudbolt Chasm.

Appearance

Piranha Plants are visually unchanged from the original game. They simply look like the Piranha Plants from Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Behavior

Piranha Plants act no different compared to their Wii versions. They have a planted and piped form, and they can be killed easily.
